To Avoid criticism, say nothing, do nothing, be nothing. -Aristotle
Happy Wise Words Wednesday everyone, [due to Hurricane Irma I had no power and couldn’t post this week’s episode on time, but rest assure we are back!]
If you are doing anything of value you are going to be criticized. The thing about criticism is that most people let it interfere with their dreams. I want you to know that You are in control of your life and if you have a dream it’s for a reason, don’t let someone else’s judgments or fears become your own. It is important that you only listen to your inner voice and stay committed to it, because that “little voice” inside of you is always guiding you into growth and abundance. If you let criticism stop you, you are hindering your own growth and abundance in this life.
When I was a professional dancer I allowed other people’s judgement of me become my reality. It really got the best of me; I began to question my own talents and the journey I was on. At the time I was weak minded, and stopped pursuing my passion for dance because of the naysayers.
As I began to strengthen my mind, I became conscious of how other people’s words were getting in the way of my ability to live and create. I learned a couple truths about criticism and how to deal with them. Once I got to the bottom line of criticism I was able to push it aside and give myself the room to grow and expand in this life.
Since we can’t eliminate criticism I want to bring into light three truths about criticism that will put your mind at ease and will help you stay focused on your dreams even when the canvas seems blurry with negative criticism.
The 3 Truths
- We all do it. Overcome the fear of criticism by realizing that it is something we all do. Honestly, we are all judging and are always being judged; its part of being human. Don’t make it more than what it is. Treat criticism just like a booger: pick it, flick it, and continue on with your life (hehe). 🙂
- The people that matter will help you build. Successful people, the ones that are creating greatness in this world, the ones that matter to you, will never waste their energies negatively criticizing you! Know that whoever criticizes you is probably not a credible source. Some one that criticizes has a lot of free time to A) analyze what you are doing, and B) talk about it. Usually someone with this much time on their hands is not doing too much with their lives. These people also lack the courage to put out their own work into the world. Rest assure that the important people, with credibility, will only give you constructive criticism and will never judge you. Seek feedback only from those people that are credible and have their minds on creating greatness in the world.
- As long as you live in growth you will be criticized. Like Aristotle says, if you don’t want to be criticized then don’t get up from your bed in the mornings, and don’t pursue your dreams. When people begin to pursue their dreams and work for something they truly believe in, all the “Benchwarmers” pop up and start to input their own judgment and criticism as if they are stakeholders of your dreams, it’s quite funny. To completely eliminate the fear of being criticized, you have to realize that pursuing your dreams is a journey, one that is filled with set backs, adversities, and criticism. Criticism is part of the path and you should never consider it to be a barrier.
To eliminate your fears of criticism I invite you to watch this week’s episode on criticism.
Now that you’ve watched it, I would love to hear from you…How are some ways you deal with criticism?
